Managing Single Dwellings

Landlords and tenants in the local area have a responsibility to the wider community to ensure household waste from rental properties is properly recycled or disposed of.

Landlords should:

  • Ensure tenants are provided with the containers needed to access the collection services provided by the Council. If Landlords do not provide bins to their tenants, they must make them aware of their responsibility to obtain their own bins from Council.
  • Provide tenants with information on their bin collection days.
  • Ensure any additional waste at the end of tenancies is properly disposed of and not illegally dumped.

Bins - Capacity and Sizes

Each property should have one each of the following:

  • Black Residual 240L Bin
  • Green Recycling 240L Bin
  • Brown Food and Garden Waste 240L Bin

Bins can be bought from the Council –

Smaller 140 litre bins are available for households with limited storage space.

Properties with a larger number of tenants residing at the address on a permanent basis can apply for larger capacity bins: Information on larger capacity bins can be found online at:

Bin Collections

Tenants Moving Out

  • It is a landlord’s responsibility to make sure that any bins provided to tenants are left at the property when they move out.
  • When tenants move out, please do not put ‘moving out’ rubbish into the green and brown bins as these will not be emptied if they contain incorrect items.
  • Tenants should also not leave excess waste beside their bins as our collection crews will not collect the excess. Excess waste can be brought to a local Household Recycling Centre.
  • Bulky waste collections can be arranged with the Council for larger items that do not fit into household bins – contact 033 0056 1020.
  • Most household items can be taken to Household Recycling Centres free of charge for more information please visit https://www.armaghbanbridgecraigavon.gov.uk/resident/recycling-centres/

Avoid a costly mess!

  • On your bin collection day all your waste items must be placed securely inside the appropriate colour wheeled bin. Do not leave loose waste beside the bin or at the collection point.
  • Offenders leaving loose waste may receive a £120 Fixed Penalty fine.
  • If your waste is left at another location away from the bin collection point, offenders may receive a £400 Fixed Penalty fine.
  • If you can’t take large items of furniture to your local recycling centre, they can be collected via the council’s Bulky Waste system. Illegal dumping of bulky items may lead to a £400 Fixed Penalty Fine.
