Armagh City – the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland and the only city in the world with two cathedrals dedicated to St Patrick – has successfully concluded its 2026 Home of St Patrick Festival, which took place from Tuesday 10 to Wednesday 18 March. This year’s programme built on the momentum of previous celebrations and once again attracted thousands of visitors to the city.

The festival showcased Armagh’s strong sense of identity, with events taking place across its historic streets, theatres, pubs, green spaces and ancient sites. By day and by night, the city became a vibrant stage for storytelling, creativity and shared cultural celebration.

Deputy Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, Councillor Jessica Johnston reflected on the success of the festival:

“Armagh’s connection to St Patrick remains central to who we are as a city, and that heritage shaped every part of this year’s festival. With two cathedrals dedicated to his name, our story continues to inspire visitors from near and far.

The 2026 festival brought thousands of people into the city, giving our local businesses, traders and hospitality providers the opportunity to shine. The atmosphere throughout Armagh was exceptional, and the warm welcome extended to visitors truly showcased the best of our city.”

One of the major highlights was the St Patrick’s Open-Air Concert on Monday 16 March, when Market Square was transformed into a bustling outdoor venue. The concert, headlined by folk favourites The Tumbling Paddies and supported by Wolfhound and The Reillys, delivered a high‑energy, family‑friendly celebration under the cathedral skyline.

The festival also welcomed Brian Finnegan & Friends at St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral on Saturday 14 March. The internationally celebrated Armagh-born composer and musician took time out from his Japan tour to return home especially for the event.

Beyond the headline acts, the Home of St Patrick Festival 2026 delivered a wide-ranging programme encouraging visitors of all ages to experience Armagh in new and engaging ways. From guided walks and family activities to comedy and live performances, the festival highlighted the depth of talent, culture and creativity.
