Irish Food Writers Guild Discovers the Flavours, Heritage and Hospitality of our Borough

Leading members of the Irish Food Writers Guild recently visited Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough for a two-day itinerary highlighting the borough’s exceptional food, drink and tourism offering.

Hosted by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, the visit introduced influential food writers and industry experts to the people, places and producers that have helped establish the borough as one of the leading premier food tourism destinations.

Deputy Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge, and Craigavon Borough, Alderman Lavelle McIlwrath said:

This visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase not only our outstanding food and drink producers but also the exceptional tourism experiences and warm hospitality that make our borough a special place to visit. We were pleased to share our story with some of the country’s leading food writers and hope their experience will inspire future visitors to explore all that our borough has to offer.”

Over the two days, the group experienced a rich programme celebrating the region’s renowned food and drink heritage, including produce from the borough’s Food Heartland producers, alongside artisan makers, award-winning hospitality and unique cultural attractions.

Highlights included visits to artisan producers, tastings of local food and cider, insights into the borough’s Food and Cider Festival, cultural experiences at Armagh Robinson Library, and an opportunity to experience the traditional sport of road bowling. The itinerary also featured dining experiences at some of the borough’s leading food destinations, highlighting the quality, provenance and creativity of local ingredients.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to raise the profile of the borough as a leading destination for food tourism, highlighting the unique connection between its rich agricultural heritage, thriving hospitality sector and world-class local produce.
