It’s time to dust down the saddle and get those rusty gears turning for the first ever Reuse and Repair Week, which runs from Saturday 30 May to Saturday 6 June, 2026.
To celebrate this week of action and awareness on sustainability organised by the Northern Ireland Resources Network (NIRN), two pop-up ‘Keep er lit…repair it’ bicycle workshops are being hosted by ABC Council’s Recycling Team at the South Lake Leisure Centre on Thursday 4 June (5pm-8pm), and on Friday 5 June (3pm-5pm).
These free events will provide fast repairs and essential safety checks to help keep bikes in good condition and prevent unnecessary waste. Experienced mechanics will be on hand to carry out minor repairs, including brake and gear adjustments, puncture repairs, and general safety inspections. No booking is required, just bring your bike along.
Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon (ABC) Borough, Ald Stephen Moutray said the Council was delighted to support the campaign. “Our pop-up bicycle repair workshops are all about bringing people together to share skills and ensure that ‘Keep er lit…repair it’ isn’t just a slogan. Reuse and Repair Week is a challenge to every household to see the value in what they already own and to conserve valuable resources and reduce our carbon footprint.”
Funded by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) via the Carrier Bag Levy, the week-long initiative aims to make ‘reuse and repair’ the norm rather than the exception.
A spokesperson for ABC Council said: “Our Recycling Team will be on hand at both workshops to offer advice and support. We want to help communities find creative ways to extend the life of everyday items, reduce waste, and support a more sustainable future.”
