A positive night for community, connection and wellbeing in Banbridge

Around 100 people attended a recent Community Wellbeing Event held at Banbridge High School, bringing together parents, young people and local community groups for an informative and engaging evening.

The event aimed to raise awareness of the support services available in the area and to encourage conversations around important issues such as mental health, alcohol and drug use. Attendees had the opportunity to access helpful advice, speak with local service providers and learn more about where to turn for support.

There was a strong focus on self-care and wellbeing throughout the evening. Health checks, a popular mocktail bar and self-care goodie bags added a relaxed and welcoming feel, while a range of information stands provided practical resources and guidance.

A key moment of the evening came from guest speaker Rory Sloan, who shared his personal experience of overcoming challenges with mental health and addiction. Now the founder of Resolute Minds, Rory supports other young people facing similar struggles. His powerful and honest story resonated with many in the audience.

Councillor Julie Flaherty, Chair of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), praised the event’s impact: “It was encouraging to see such a strong turnout for such an important topic – one that we need to continue to address. Events like this help break down barriers and remind people that they are not alone – support is available and it’s okay to ask for help.”

The event was organised by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) in partnership with the Southern Drug and Alcohol Connections Team (SDACT).
