Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council warmly welcomed representatives from Kilkenny County Council to the borough as part of a cultural and regeneration-focused visit to Northern Ireland.

The visit follows the successful ABC Heritage Places Study Trip held in May 2025, and marks a continued collaboration between both councils to share insights and best practices in heritage-led regeneration, cultural development, and tourism.

Kilkenny County Council expressed interest in exploring key initiatives across the Borough, including regeneration projects and the wider cultural and heritage landscape of the area.

The day began with a Civic Reception at Armagh Palace hosted by the Deputy Lord Mayor where gifts were exchanged. Followed by a walking tour of the City led by Donna Fox Tours, starting at the County Club on Upper English Street—one of the key sites in the Armagh Townscape Heritage project. The delegation received a presentation on Armagh Townscape Heritage initiative, which is nearing completion after successfully restoring 11 historic properties in the city.

The group also explored the history behind Armagh Gaol and Navan Fort, gaining deeper insight into the rich historical and archaeological significance of the borough.

Deputy Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council, Councillor Jessica Johnston commented:

“It was a pleasure to host our colleagues from Kilkenny County Council. Their interest in our regeneration and heritage work reflects the value of cross-border collaboration and shared learning. We look forward to building on these connections in the months ahead.”

Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh Vice-Chairperson, and Cathaoirleach, comment on their visit:

“Our visit to Armagh was inspiring and informative. From the warm welcome at The Palace Demesne to the insightful presentations on heritage regeneration and tourism development, it was clear that Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council is leading with vision and collaboration.  We look forward to exploring how we can apply these learnings here in Kilkenny to further develop our own City and County.”
