The inaugural recipients of the Coronation Bursary Scheme have been announced as Cody Gorman, a Year 12 student from St John the Baptist’s College and Maria Joice, a Year 12 student from Portadown College.
Launched in January, the scheme offers 20 bursary awards of up to £500 to young people aged 15-19 years who have demonstrated exceptional qualities beyond academic achievement such as overcoming adversity, promoting respect and understanding and supporting others.
Welcoming the recipients and their teachers to Craigavon Civic Centre, Lord Mayor Alderman Stephen Moutray said: “I am delighted to congratulate the first recipients of the Coronation Bursary Scheme, which was established to celebrate students who exhibit resilience, integrity, kindness and ambition.
“This award will provide a welcome financial contribution to support young people with their ongoing personal and academic development, and I invite more schools and colleges to submit applications for this bursary.”

The bursary can be used to cover materials to promote or develop a project in line with the programme objectives, such as essential software packages; books and textbooks; course specific equipment; laptop or related equipment if required for study and job essential tools to support career development.
The Coronation Bursary remains open for applications from schools and colleges until Friday 5 February 2027.
