Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA 1995) (as amended by the Disability Discrimination (NI) Order 2006) requires the Council, in carrying out its functions, to have due regard to the need to:

  • Promote positive attitudes towards disabled people
  • Encourage participation by disabled people in public life

The Disability Action Plan sets out how the Council proposes to fulfill the Disability Duties in relation to its functions. Click on the link below to download the Disability Duties and Action Plan 2017-2019.

Consultation: Disability Duties & Action Plan 2020-2023

The Council is formally consulting on its Disability Duties and Action Plan 2020-2023 and its Audit of Inequalities and Equality Action Plan 2020-2023.  Consultees are asked to comment on the Plans and whether or not they believe further action measures should be considered for inclusion.  To give your feedback and views please click here.

Access Able works in partnership with the Council to provide an access guide to over 450 public venues.  A range of venues are included in the guide such as leisure centres, shops, hotels, restaurants, council buildings, community centres, places of worship and many more.
