Lord Mayor, Councillor Kevin Savage and Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Kyle Savage officially launch the ‘Farming and Food Photography Competition’ – with a little help from a few friends!

With farming at the heart of our borough, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is currently in the process of developing an innovative Agriculture Strategy – leading the way as the first council within Northern Ireland taking a strategic approach to the agriculture industry.

Your help is needed! Amateur photographers are invited to put their skills to the test and enter the Farming and Food Photography Competition – with the winning photos being featured within this strategy and online gallery.

There will be eight categories to choose from and each entrant can enter a maximum of two photographs across the following categories:

  • Farming Generations and Family
  • Farming Innovation
  • Food Production
  • Landscapes
  • Local Food
  • Livestock
  • Machinery
  • Young photographer (open to anyone under 16 years of age on the closing date)

The winner of each category will also receive a £50 meal voucher at an independent restaurant or cafe within the Borough.

“Agriculture, farming and food are a vital part of our borough’s economy and an important source of livelihood, underpinning the success of many businesses in this local area,” commented the Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Kevin Savage. “As an example, you only have to look at the Council’s Food Heartland Initiative over the last few years to see the strength of the food offering within our borough.”

Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Kyle Savage added, “We are extremely proud to be the first local council to produce an Agriculture Strategy and to recognise the importance of supporting the local farming and agri-food industry – and we would like you to help us to capture the story of what the Agriculture Industry means through this photographic competition.

“We would encourage our local residents to get out and about, and take some photos showcasing all we have to offer within our farming communities. We look forward to seeing them!”

The competition opens on Saturday 1st May and the closing date is Friday 28th May at 4pm. The competition is for amateur photographers only. All entries should be emailed to and should be labelled with your name and category.
