Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is delighted to support the delivery of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland’s ‘Building Aspirations’ initiative through match funding support from the James Kane Foundation, ensuring thousands of young people across the borough gain access to vital entrepreneurship and work-readiness skills.
The initiative will see more than 6,000 post-primary students from schools throughout the council area take part in interactive and inspiring education programmes. Delivered by Young Enterprise NI, the three strands of the Building Aspirations programme will:
- Help young people become more financially capable.
- Prepare them to be work-ready for future career pathways.
- Provide hands-on opportunities to learn about enterprise and run their own student businesses.
Speaking about the partnership, Lord Mayor Alderman Stephen Moutray, said:
“We are proud to support the Building Aspirations programme, which is helping to nurture the next generation. By investing in our young people today, we are giving them the confidence, skills and opportunities they need to succeed tomorrow. It is inspiring to see the enthusiasm and creativity of students like those at Ceara School, and I look forward to watching their ideas and ambitions grow.”
Carol Fitzsimons MBE, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, said:
“We are so pleased to work in partnership with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. The world of work will dramatically change by the time our children finish education. They need to be prepared to adapt and thrive in any future world. This is where skills such as confidence, resilience and creativity are vital.”
Students at Ceara School in Lurgan, who are already engaging with the entrepreneurship strand of the programme, recently welcomed the Council and YENI team to showcase their learning in action.
Through this collaboration, ABC Council is committed to equipping young people with the employability and entrepreneurial skills increasingly sought after by employers, helping them thrive in an ever-changing world of work.
