A Portadown bakery business has been fined £1,150 for breaching a series of food safety regulations.
The Cookery Nook Bakery, 7 Mahon Industrial Estate, Portadown pleaded guilty to four charges at Craigavon Magistrates Court this week, in a case brought by Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon (ABC) Borough Council.
The court heard that in February 2026, Environmental Health Officers found that the business had failed to ensure premises were kept clean; failed to ensure good hygiene practices including pest control; failed to implement HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point); and failed to ensure food handlers were supervised and trained.
As well as fines totalling £1,150, the business owner was also ordered to pay Council legal fees in the sum of £100 and court summons fee of £69.
A spokesperson for ABC Council said: “Our officers carry out regular inspections of all food businesses to ensure consumers are protected at all times and this case outlines the serious consequences for businesses failing to comply with their responsibilities under food hygiene regulations.”
They added: “We aim to work with businesses providing guidance and support, but when and where we find failings, we will take appropriate action which may include prosecution and court-imposed fines.”
ABC Council’s Environmental Health Department Food Team helps to protect consumers by; investigating complaints; carrying out inspections and awarding food hygiene ratings, sampling and testing foods; providing advice and support to businesses.
