Ukraine Refugee Support Available in our Borough

As a Council, we are working with the Executive Office and other government departments to support the arrival of Ukraine refugees to Northern Ireland and our borough.  We have established a Ukraine Assistance Centre at Brownlow Community Hub, in Craigavon, operating as one of four new regional centres, to provide information and assistance to refugees on arrival to the borough, and their host families.

Centre Opening Times

The Ukraine Assistance Centre in Craigavon will open on Wednesday 9, 30 November and 21 December, from 9.30am – 1.00pm on each date.

No appointments are necessary and all enquiries must be made in person. Telephone access to services is not available.

Advice and Guidance

Interpreter services will be available at the centres and anyone attending will be welcomed by staff and a range of partner organisations including:

  • Law Centre
  • Department for Communities
  • Flex Language Services
  • Red Cross
  • Education Authority
  • Northern Ireland Housing Association
  • Southern Health and Social Care Trust
  • PSNI

Each partner will be able to offer assistance and support on a range of issues including:

  • Housing
  • Education
  • Benefits and support payments
  • Immigration and legal advice
  • Employment information
  • Health information

A number of schemes are in place to welcome refugees from Ukraine to Northern Ireland.  These are run by the UK Homes Office and the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities.

Ukraine Assistance Centres Regional Operating Times

Additional Ukraine Assistance Centre regional locations and opening times for November & December 2022 are as follows:

  • Belfast – Monday 7, 14, 21, 28 November, 5, 12 and 19 December
  • Belfast – Friday 11, 18, 25 November, 2, 9, 16 and 23 December
  • Ballymena – Wednesday 2, 23 November and 14 December – Please note: The 2 November centre will likely run full day, 0930 to 1600, given the time lapse since the last centre
  • Newry – Wednesday 16 November, 7 and (potentially) 28 December
