During the fun-filled summer months, Council rolled out an exciting new programme called ‘It’s Good to Chalk’ during summer schemes, play programmes, Love Parks Week and in celebration of National Play Day!

With boxes of wonderfully colourful chalk, children on these programmes let their imaginations run wild and created everything from beautiful pavement drawings to original outdoor games and activities. What’s more, the programme encouraged the kids to talk about their creations, helping them explore and express their thoughts and feelings.

The programme, which secured funding from Peace IV and was part of Council’s pledge to #summerOfPlay, was a great success – with hundreds of children taking part!

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Glenn Barr, comments: “The pandemic posed a challenging time for our children and young people – with many having to spend large periods of time indoors. As a result, we wanted to bring this brilliant programme to our kids and encourage them to start enjoying the great outdoors again! It was fantastic seeing all the amazing drawings – well done to all involved!”
