The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Mary O’Dowd is proud to announce her two chosen charities for the year ahead: PIPS Hope and Support and Parkinson’s UK Armagh Support Group.

Throughout her term, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Mary O’Dowd will lead a range of fundraising activities in support of these important local organisations, with a focus on raising both awareness and much-needed funds.

The announcement recognises the invaluable contribution both organisations make to communities across the borough. Through its dedication to suicide prevention, crisis intervention and bereavement support, PIPS Hope and Support provides a lifeline to individuals and families during times of crisis. While the Parkinson’s UK Armagh Support Group offers friendship, understanding and practical support to people living with Parkinson’s, as well as their families and carers. Together, they deliver vital services that help local people navigate some of life’s most difficult challenges and ensure that support, connection and hope remain close to home.

“It is a real privilege to support two local charities that play such an important role in our borough and have such a profound effect on our residents’ lives,” commented the Lord Mayor, Councillor Mary O’Dowd.

She continued, “From promoting positive mental health and suicide prevention to providing care, friendship and advocacy for those living with Parkinson’s, these charities make a profound difference to the lives of people every day. I look forward to working closely with both organisations to help raise awareness of their vital work, support fundraising efforts and ensure more residents across our borough know where they can turn for support.”

Representatives from the charities recently met with the Lord Mayor to discuss the impact of their work and explore opportunities to raise funds, increase awareness and strengthen the network of support available throughout the borough of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.

Seamus McCabe MBE, Chief Executive Officer at PIPS Hope and Support commented:

“We are truly honoured to have been chosen as one of the Lord Mayor’s chosen charities for the year ahead. This partnership will not only raise vital funds but will also increase awareness of mental health and suicide prevention across our borough. Support from the Lord Mayor will help us respond to increasing demand, ensuring more people can access compassionate, timely mental health and suicide prevention support. Together, we can ensure that more people know they don’t have to face their struggles alone and that help, hope and support are always available.”

Thanking the Lord Mayor for selecting the Parkinson’s UK Armagh Support Group as one of her chosen charities, their Chair Robert Jennet commented:

“We look forward to working with the Lord Mayor to help raise awareness of Parkinson’s across our borough while also highlighting and supporting the vital work the support group does for local people living with the condition and their families.
