Local Democracy Week

Local Democracy Week is an annual celebration dedicated to raising awareness of local government and encouraging people to take an active interest in local decision-making.

Each year, it highlights the vital role councils play in shaping our communities — from the services we rely on every day to the future plans that help our towns and villages thrive. It’s all about inspiring greater understanding, engagement, and participation in local democracy, helping residents see how their voices can make a real difference.

Do you know all the different ways you can have your say and make a difference to your local area?

To find out more about what we can do for you and how you can have your say in local decision-making, you can:

Get involved and help out in your area by joining your local residents association or community group. Contact a member of the Council’s Community Development Team for more information.

These are ways we currently engage with our citizens and as you can see, democratic participation takes many forms.  Perhaps you think there are other ways we could engage with citizens, if so please let us know.  You can do this by contacting us on
