Over 150 local job seekers came along to the latest job fair in The Marketplace Theatre, Armagh on Tuesday morning to meet local employers and potentially apply for job positions on offer. In fact, three jobs were successfully filled before noon.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council’s Labour Market Partnership collaborated with the Armagh Jobs and Benefits Office to organise the event.

Local employers included Armagh City Hotel, McElmeel Mobility Services, McKeevers Chemists, Philip White Tyres and SFM Engineering Ltd attended the job fair to meet job seekers and discuss the opportunities.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Margaret Tinsley commented:

“There was an incredible buzz at the Armagh job fair on Tuesday morning with so many job opportunities on offer for local job seekers. The Council is eager to support people into employment and this event is an accessible and effective way to help.

“It was also a pleasure to meet and speak to some young people from St Catherine’s College in Armagh who came along to gain an insight into potential career options. They were engaging with the employers and thinking about their own future potential, which is so important.”

Labour Market Partnerships, which create targeted employment action plans for council areas, are funded by the Department for Communities, and allow for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.

The job fairs take place across the borough throughout the year and attendees receive a list of available vacancies and are given information on training opportunities, self-employment, careers guidance and practical advice to help improve their chances of finding employment.

The next job fair will take place in Banbridge in early 2024, however there are numerous employability programmes on offer through the Council’s Labour Market Partnership including a Female Focus project, Disability Employment, and an Upskilling Migrant Workers programme.
