Paying your Rates

Land & Property Services (LPS) is responsible for the collection of rates in Northern Ireland. If you are responsible for paying rates there are a number of different ways available to pay.

Pay online

You can pay your rates online at www.nidirect.gov.uk/pay-your-rates-online

In order to make an online payment you will need:

  • Your account ID (can be found on your rates bill)
  • Your ratepayer ID (can be found on your rates bill)
  • The amount you wish to pay

Set up a direct debit online

You can set up a direct debit to pay your rates online at www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/set-direct-debit-online

LPS can only consider a request to set up a direct debit from:

  • The rate account holder
  • Someone authorised to contact LPS about the rate account

You must be authorised to set up direct debits on the bank or building society account. To use this online form you must give:

  • Ratepayer ID (can be found on your rates bill)
  • Account ID (can be found on your rates bill)
  • A bank or building society account name, account number and sort code
  • Your name

Moving address

If you move in or out of a property and you are responsible for paying rates you should inform LPS immediately to ensure you are only billed for the period you are responsible for paying rates for the property.

You can inform LPS online at www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/create-or-update-your-rate-account

To inform LPS of a change or if you have moved out of a property you will need one of the reference numbers on your rates bill:

  • Occupancy ID
  • Account ID
  • Ratepayer ID

If you sold a property, you’ll need to confirm information about one person involved in the sale:

  • The new owner’s contact details
  • Your solicitor’s details
  • The estate agent

If you bought a property, you’ll need to confirm information about one person involved in the sale:

  • The previous owner’s contact details
  • Their solicitor’s details
  • The estate agent
