Changes to food waste collection

Changes to food waste collection service

We’re making changes to the food waste collection service for a limited number of residents who currently have weekly kerbside collections.

WHAT’S CHANGING?
Your small kerbside food container (collected weekly) will be replaced with a larger brown wheeled bin (140 litres), which will be emptied every two weeks. This change means everyone across the borough will have the same service, and you’ll be able to put more compostable items in your bin.

WHAT YOU’LL GET:
Over the next few weeks, you’ll receive:
• A 140-litre brown wheeled bin for food and garden waste.
• A small 7-litre kitchen caddy with a roll of compostable liners for collecting food scraps in your kitchen.
• An information leaflet explaining what can go in your new bin and how to use it.

BROWN BIN COLLECTION:

  • Your collection day won’t change.
  • If your food waste collection is on a Thursday, then your brown bin collections will start from Thursday 30 October, and every fortnight thereafter.
  • If your food waste collection is on a Friday, then your brown bin collections will start from Friday 31 October, and every fortnight thereafter.
  • Please put your bin out by 7am on collection day. Your green and black bin collections will continue as normal.

This change means everyone across the borough will have the same fortnightly collection service, and those receiving the new bins will be able to recycle more compostable items.
