Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council welcomed delegates from across the UK and Ireland for a special visit showcasing the borough’s significant investment in heritage conservation and regeneration as part of the Heritage Trust Network Conference.
As part of the conference programme, delegates spent a day exploring the borough’s historic towns and cities, with a particular focus on the transformative impact of the Armagh and Lurgan Townscape Heritage Projects. These initiatives restored vacant and derelict buildings and helped safeguard the architectural heritage for future generations.
Welcoming delegates to the borough, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Mary O’Dowd, said:
“We are delighted to welcome delegates from the Heritage Trust Network Conference to showcase our borough that is steeped in history and heritage. From the historic streets of Armagh City to the unique stories, landmarks and communities found throughout our towns and villages. This visit provided an excellent opportunity for delegates to see how heritage can be celebrated, protected and used to support regeneration and tourism. We hope delegates enjoyed their time here, discovering some of the many attractions and experiences we have to offer.”
The Heritage Trust Network Conference brings together organisations and individuals committed to preserving, revitalising and promoting historic places. By hosting delegates in the borough, the Council raised awareness of its heritage assets, shared examples of best practice in heritage-led regeneration to encourage future visits from both heritage professionals and cultural tourists.
The visit forms part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to heritage conservation, heritage-led regeneration and tourism development. By welcoming conference delegates to experience the borough’s historic places first-hand, the Council is showcasing how investment in heritage is helping to preserve the past while creating sustainable places for the future.
