Dog owners and dog walkers are being invited along to the People’s Park in Portadown on Friday 24 April for the launch of an exciting new initiative to provide FREE dog waste bags.
Armagh City, Banbridge &Craigavon (ABC) Borough Council have joined forces with the charity Rosie’s Trust for the pilot project which will see five dog waste bag dispensers installed in council-run parks.
The launch of the dispensers will coincide with the Scoop the Poop Week (April 23 – April 29) campaign and it is hoped that the provision of the bags will help reduce the number of dog fouling incidents in the public spaces.
The dispensers have been funded through a grant from Keep NI Beautiful’s Live Here, Love Here programme.
Rosie’s Trust is the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to supporting cancer patients, people receiving end-of-life care, and elderly individuals with mobility issues to keep their beloved pets. Volunteers with the charity provide practical and compassionate support, visiting beneficiaries regularly to reduce loneliness and ensure their pets are well cared for. This includes delivering over 10,000 hours of volunteer dog walking each year.
Aileen Martin, who is the Chair of Rosie’s Trust, said: “We are delighted that ABC Council and Keep NI Beautiful have supported this initiative, helping us tackle dog fouling while also raising awareness of the charity.
“We would love people to bring their dogs along on Friday 24 April at 12pm, enjoy some refreshments and freebies, and chat to us about volunteering – particularly in the ABC area, where we are in real need of additional volunteers.”
