Disruption to Council services & facilities

Storm Éowyn

Due to Storm Éowyn, Red and Amber weather warnings in place for very strong winds, causing very dangerous conditions with widespread disruption and significant impacts expected to council services and facilities.

All council facilities and services will be closed on Friday 24 January 2025.

During this period, visitors are strongly advised to avoid parks and open spaces due to potential injury and danger to life from falling debris.

Subject to site inspections on Saturday 25 January some facilities may remain closed.

We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Disruption to Council services & facilities

Bin Collections
Bin collections will be suspended on Friday 24 January 2025. Further information on revised collections will be issued in due course.

Household Recycling Centres
All Household Recycling Centres will be closed on Friday 24 January.

Golf Courses, Parks and Open Spaces
All golf courses, parks and open spaces will be closed on Friday 24 January. Subject to site inspections on Saturday 25 January some facilities may remain closed.

Leisure, community and tourism facilities
All leisure, community and tourism facilities will be closed on Friday 24 January 2025.

Pitches
All pitches will be closed on Friday 24 January. Subject to pitch inspections on Saturday some pitches may remain closed. All customer bookings will be contacted directly.

Council buildings
All council buildings will be closed on Friday 24 January 2025.

Weather Warnings

The Met Office has issued the following weather warnings for Storm Éowyn:

YELLOW Weather Warning for WIND from 00.01 tonight (Thurs 23 Jan) until 11.59hrs on Fri 24 Jan.

AMBER Weather Warning for WIND from 6am on Fri 24 Jan to 9pm on Fri 24 Jan.

RED Weather Warning for WIND from 7am on Fri 24 Jan to 2pm on Fri 24 Jan.

What to expect:

  • Flying debris resulting in danger to life
  • Very dangerous driving conditions with fallen trees on roads
  • Damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down
  • Roads, bridges and railway lines closed, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights
  • Power cuts affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes
