Service Disruption Faqs

The three Trade Unions, NIPSA, GMB and Unite the Unite, have issued Council with notification of further industrial action as follows:

  • Unite the Union – a continuation of strike action from Tuesday 13 September 2022.
  • GMB – a continuation of strike action from Sunday 18 September to Monday 10 October.
  • NIPSA – direct strike action on Monday 19 September, Monday 26 September and Monday 3 October 2022, and continuous action short of strike from 16 August 2022.

This industrial action will cause disruption to services and facilities across the borough however, where possible, Council will seek to minimise the impact caused.

During this period of industrial action, telephone enquiries may not be responded to immediately therefore, we are advising residents to email the relevant department directly, where staff will respond as soon as possible.   • GMB – a further additional week of strike action from Monday 12 to 18 September.
  • NIPSA – direct strike action on Monday 19 September, Monday 26 September and Monday 3 October, and continuous action short of strike from 16 August.

The Council deeply regrets that strike action is taking place, and the impact that it is having on residents. The Council remains fully committed to finding a resolution through ongoing discussions with Trade Unions in the days ahead.

The collection of rates is managed by Land and Property Services who are also responsible for the valuation and rating of property.

Rates are used to pay for a wide range of public services on an annual basis.

There is no facility under the current system to offer rebates for any reduction in a service provided by a public body.

Refuse & Waste FAQ’s

The council deeply regrets that due to ongoing strike action all bin collections are suspended until further notice.

  • Residents are advised not to leave bins out for collection at this time.
  • Updates on bin collections will be published on the council service disruption webpage and social media (Facebook and Twitter).

All bulky household waste collections are suspended until further notice.

All bin purchases are suspended until further notice.

Currently all Household Recycling Centres are closed.

Please keep separating your waste. Double bag additional waste and store in a secure place.

Where possible store waste in containers/shed/garage and keep on your own property.

When handling waste at home, always wash hands thoroughly.

During this time of industrial action, we advise businesses to appropriately store your waste, or arrange a temporary commercial waste collection from a registered company.

  • Check waste bags are intact, clean up any spilled materials and reseal waste securely.
  • Clean and disinfect storage area regularly.
  • Disinfect food preparation surfaces before use and don’t leave food uncovered.
  • Contact a pest controller if specialist services required.
  • Rinse out food packaging/tin cans before disposing.

Health & Recreation FAQ’s

Yes, during this period of Industrial action you may use another leisure facility of your choice in the Borough.

  • A refund will be processed as soon possible for customers who have made ‘one-off’ bookings. g. Watersports bookings, Hall bookings, football bookings, summer activity sessions, snow tubing, footgolf.
  • For direct debit customers: Payments will be adjusted to reflect any missing day/sessions in due course. All swimming lesson direct debit payments will be adjusted to reflect any cancellations as soon as possible.
  • Customers making annual payments – any days missed due to cancellation will be added on to your annual usage.

We anticipate there will be some disruption to our swimming lesson programme run across the Borough. If a swimming lesson is being cancelled you will receive an email to inform you.

All customers who have made a football booking will receive an email to inform you of any cancellations.
