Dozens of dogs and their owners converged on the People’s Park in Portadown on Friday 24 April for the launch of an exciting new initiative to provide dog waste bags.
Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon (ABC) Borough Council have joined forces with the charity Rosie’s Trust for the pilot project which involves five dog waste bag dispensers installed in council-run parks.
Lord Mayor, Ald Stephen Moutray was invited along to the event to officially launch the scheme, which it is hoped, will help reduce the number of dog fouling incidents in parks and public spaces.
Furry friends of all shapes and sizes, got to meet up with some familiar and some new faces as they went for a doggie dander around the People’s Park to help mark the launch of the new waste bags.
Rosie’s Trust is the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to supporting cancer patients, people receiving end-of-life care, and elderly individuals with mobility issues to keep their beloved pets. Volunteers with the charity provide practical and compassionate support, visiting beneficiaries regularly to reduce loneliness and ensure their pets are well cared for. This includes delivering over 10,000 hours of volunteer dog walking each year.
