Lord Mayor, Alderman Stephen Mountray lends his support to Recycle Week 2025 with Caroline Magill, Environmental Education Officer at ABC Council.

Residents across the Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon (ABC) Borough are being encouraged to play their part in Recycle Week which is celebrating its 20th year.

This Recycle Week, which is running from September 22 – 28, Recycle Now and ABC Borough Council are proud to support the Rescue Me! Recycle campaign.

The campaign continues to shine a spotlight on missed capture items that too often end up in the rubbish bin but can, and should be recycled.

Following the success of last year’s campaign, Rescue Me! Recycle returns with new characters – shampoo bottles and foil – joining the recycling mission.

Other familiar items which are often in need of rescue from the bin are: trigger sprays; aerosols; yoghurt pots; aftershave and perfume bottles and toilet roll tubes.

Here in ABC Council we are putting missed capture items front and centre throughout the week on our social media channels.

Lord Mayor of ABC Borough, Alderman Stephen Moutray said the campaign was a great opportunity to further reduce our impact on the environment.

“Every item we recycle, no matter how small, is helping to protect the environment and reduce climate change,” he said.

“Recycle Week is an important chance to create new habits and refocus our efforts. There are always some items which maybe aren’t recycled, and so we hope this campaign will help people to better understand what can be saved from landfill. It is also an opportunity to get the recycling conversation going with family and friends.”

Catherine David, CEO of WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) which organises the campaign said:

“Recycle Week continues to be a powerful moment to inspire action across the UK, and this year’s ‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ campaign is no exception. By highlighting everyday items we’re helping people see the real impact of small changes..
