Love Your Local Market 2017 – FREE Trading Opportunity

Encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit with the next generation of traders is the concept for a new ‘Love Your Local Market (LYLM) 2017 – Markets for Millennials’ campaign. Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is getting behind the initiative by offering young entrepreneurs the opportunity to trade at two of their markets for free.

Joining over 1,200 markets across the country, Council is calling for all creative individuals or groups aged 16-25 years who have a product, project, craft or arts and performance talent to get on board and try their hand at trading or performing at Lurgan Market and the Shambles Variety Market, Armagh.

The European-wide Love Your Local Market initiative celebrates markets across Europe and encourages people to be entrepreneurial, support markets and more importantly to shop local. This year’s theme ‘Markets for Millennials’ offers a unique opportunity for young people to step into the spot light showcasing their skills, talent, diversity and energy on a supportive platform and empowering them to kick start a business opportunity they may never have considered possible before.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, Councillor Garath Keating comments:

“Making our markets relevant for the next generation of traders and buyers is a key facet to boosting the long term success of our economy. That is why we are so keen to support the European-wide Love Your Local Market campaign.

This free initiative provides an inclusive and nurturing environment for young people to come forward and showcase their skills and talents right here in their borough. What is more, it will also encourage young people to consider the possibilities of trading and stimulate an entrepreneurial spirit within the borough. I would encourage all young people to get involved and give it a go!”
