If you listen very carefully, you may just be able to hear a faint ‘ho ho ho’ in the air as Santa starts his journey to attend a very special tinsel-tastic evening of fun in Lurgan next week!
The annual Christmas Switch On will be taking place in the town centre on Friday 15th November, with the sparkling variety of entertainment starting on stage at 6pm.
You will also find the streets lined with a stunningly festive Twilight Market offering unique giftware, artisan food, hot drinks, fashion and sweet treats.
The switch on event will be hosted by Ryan Tracey – famous for being the world’s fastest balloon modeller and semi-finalist in Britain’s Got Talent 2017 – so you are guaranteed a lot of laughs throughout the evening!
Festivities will kick off with a local school choir singing carols on stage to set the scene, followed by ‘Flowers and Guitars’ – a dynamnic duo who cover popular songs and will get everyone into the party mood!
The Lord Mayor will then arrive in time to welcome Santa Claus and his wife Mrs Claus, who will appear on a beautiful horse drawn carriage and do the honours of officially starting Christmas by switching on the lights!
The fun doesn’t end here though! Singing Princesses Elsa and Anna will take to the stage and get everyone singing along to some family favourites and Disney classics – so make sure you warm up those vocal chords! Local drama groups will also entertain the crowds with song and dance numbers, so keep an eye out for performances from Louise Fahey School and MADS.
And as if that all wasn’t enough, local band Fifth Avenue will be playing all the best Christmas songs to have you rocking around the Christmas tree, followed by The Swingtime Starlets – a three piece harmony group – who will sing some crooner Christmas classics and hits from throughout the decades.
You will also find face painters, balloon modellers, fire performers, arts and crafts workshops, Christmas characters, street performers and the South Ulster Community Band playing a few tunes in the market
“The Lurgan Switch On is going to be an absolutely amazing evening and is the one to kick off all the festive fun across the borough!” commented the Lord Mayor, Councillor Mealla Campbell.
“I can already imagine the wonderful atmosphere that will be created on the night with the Twilight market, the music and the entertainment – and there really is something to suit the whole family. So make sure you put on the winter woollies and come out to support this fabulous evening and get yourself into the Christmassy spirit – I can’t wait to see you there!”
