£2.7million available for rural communities

Rural community groups could benefit from up to £250,000 per project for village renewal or access to basic services in rural areas under a new grant scheme available through SOAR (ABC).

Eligible projects are those which will improve access to basic services, such as childcare, to reduce isolation or poverty, and village renewal projects such as bringing derelict buildings back into community use.

Southern Organisation for Action in Rural areas – which covers the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area – SOAR (ABC), is asking rural community groups to submit Expression of Interest forms, available from www.soarni.org, by Friday 14 October.

Chairman of the Local Action Group, Councillor Joe Nelson said,

“This SOAR (ABC) grant funding provides an excellent opportunity to develop a connected, dynamic, sustainable, and equitable rural society in our borough. Almost half of the residents here live in rural areas, so I would encourage community groups to get in touch to find out more and submit their Expression of Interest forms as soon as possible.”
