Rural Development

Council’s Development Department is responsible for Rural Development with the Borough.


A Rural Development Team is employed within the Department’s  Economic Development Section with responsibility for delivering the EU Funded Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013 on behalf of SOAR (Southern Organisation for Action in Rural Areas).


Craigavon Borough Council is the lead Council for SOAR and a strategy has been prepared for the delivery of the Programme in the southern cluster area consisting of Armagh, Craigavon and Newry & Mourne.

A Rural Development Officer is employed within the Community Development Section with responsibility for supporting community groups in the rural areas and successfully implementing the recommendations of the Councils Rural Development Strategy and Action Plan.

Irish and Ulster Scots Voicemail Service

The Council now provides an Irish and Ulster Scots voicemail service for any member of the public who wishes to ring using these languages. Simply ring the Council and ask to be put through to the service.  You will then hear a voicemail message in that language and be asked to leave your message.  We will then have your message translated and a response sent.
